New Tamworth City Toyota coming soon to Global Gateway

The current location of Tamworth City Toyota has a long history with Toyota, having initially been the site of Coutman's Garage. Under the previous owners of Tamworth City Toyota, the site was redeveloped, and the dealership was transferred from its then site of Bridge Street. The premises have served well in the meantime, but with the growth since the change to the current ownership in late 2018, it has become obvious that a new home is necessary.

Following extensive planning, work is now underway to build a state-of-the-art dealership at Tamworth's Global Gateway. With Toyota being both Australia's and Tamworth's favourite vehicle, the new premises will offer improved customer facilities including a well-appointed customer lounge and a drive through concierge service. Workshop capacity has been increased to make it easier to get a booking, and parts storage will be much larger so that a more extensive range of parts and accessories can be carried in stock. Car parking has been increased dramatically, so parking on the street should be a thing of the past.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new dealership in late 2026, when Drive the Feeling will go to a whole new level.

Sod Turning Ceremony & Construction Site Overview

The dealer principal of one of Tamworth's leading automotive businesses hopes to be operating out of its state-of-the-art new home by this time next year.

The first of the Stage 3 releases for the industrial precinct on the western outskirts of the city to break ground, at a sod turning ceremony on Friday, January 23, dealer principal Tim Easey gave mid-late January, 2027 as the timeframe the business was working towards.

Justin Single, representing Single Builders, Will Johns, representing developers Willer Property, president of global mobility for Servco Australia Nick Pappas, and Tamworth City Toyota dealer principal Tim Easey perform a ceremonial sod turning for the new facility at the Global Gateway Park.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Member for New England Barnaby Joyce, Nick Pappas, president of global mobility for Servo Australia, which Tamworth City Toyota is part of, Toyota executives and brand ambassadors, representatives from developers Willer Property and Single Builders, the Tamworth City Toyota leadership team, local business leaders, Tamworth Regional Council mayor Russell Webb and TRC general manager Paul Bennett.

Cr Webb, in his speech, described it as not only the beginning for a new era for Toyota but for the subdivision, which council purchased as a greenfield site in 2016.

"When we established the Global Gateway Park here quite some years ago, we had a dream," he said.

It's hoped the new facility will be up and running by early next year.

"And we had a dream that on probably the southern end of the Global Gateway Park, we would have something here that was going to be eye catching and it was going to be iconic.

"We couldn't be happier with what's going on here."

Partial to a Toyota himself, Cr Webb reflected to those in attendance about buying his first Toyota in about 1972.

"It was a 1963 soft top," he recalled.

He paid "the extreme price" of $1600, which he joked, one of the finance staff told him wouldn't even be a deposit these days.

The ceremony was a big affair.

Mr Bennett believes having a brand like Toyota investing in the GGP will have a positive flow-on for the business community as a whole.

"I think the investment out here into something like this is good for all businesses that are already in town around that level of confidence for the future," he said.

"But also others saying why are they building such a big facility in Tamworth? What's going on in Tamworth.

"So [it's] a really great momentum builder around other investment into the city as well."

The local music scene is in good hands if these teens are any gauge.

He said they have had approaches from other notable brands that may be looking to set up a footprint in the city (he wouldn't divulge who they were) and noted the interest in releases for the various industrial precincts being built around Tamworth.

"It's just a really boom time for the city," he said.

"This (western side) is like the second Taminda I suppose, and I guess we'll see a transition of some of those businesses that have grown in Taminda initially will come out here and then there'll be a new start for Taminda as well."

The new Toyota dealership will feature a 4,400sqm facility across a 1.58ha footprint and include one of the largest service departments in NSW.
